Her peers had chosen a sea-change But she needed somewhat more She jumped in the car, set the nav to “range” The goal to simply explore
City diluted to suburbs The burbs thinned to fields of green But her feet still itched, and her heart still skipped This didn’t match up to the dream
Motorways narrowed to lanes The plains bunched up into hills Trees grew to forest, dips dropped to ravines And her soul started to thrill
She confronted wild, rutted tracks She vanquished fear’s brutal hold For just over that hill, and around that bend Was something akin to gold
But when afternoon ate into day Her focus started to drift With kinks in the road and sun in her eyes The crash was a gambler’s gift
Surrender was not an option She’d come too far to turn round And the golden glow on the “for-sale” sign Caused her hopeful heart to pound
Her maimed car limped down the driveway She parked outside an old shack Where sunset’s wide brush painted brilliant hues She knew she’d never look back
Gazing out over the valleys Her heart exploding with praise In the glory of, the bush fenced by naught She’d live the best of her days
