Typos first
I recently created a few new promos for my first book, however, in typical fashion, I connected the wrong link to the first video. If you want to see what you were supposed to see, check it out below.
Otherwise, read on… after checking out some of the crew who dropped in this month, along with all the rain.
This month’s life’s lesson
So, apparently there’s thing called ADHD burnout—not that I’m new to the phenomenon—but the fact it has a name and it’s a “thing” is a bit of a revelation. And, also apparently, I’m ticking all the boxes (overachiever that I am—go team!).
This has made keeping all those butterflies on delicate leashes and juggling those chainsaws whilst tightrope walking in a barbed-wire bikini even more difficult. So much so, I have dropped the lot and am now navigating my way out of the horrid mess it became. Thankfully (there’s always a thankfully) this is all metaphorical and no butterflies were harmed in the making of this analogy.
Where to from here?
Good question. Once again (note above where this is not a new phenomenon—thanks Jack, my son, for helping figure out how to spell that complete nightmare of a word, I was so wrong, even spell check was giving me squint eye #dyslexiabrainfoglovechildwordpuzzles) I have come back to a plan. All hail the new plan. Which looks a lot like the old plan, but this time with meaning!
Except I’m a pantser*
Not only in writing, it seems, but also in life. So, about that plan… I thought I’d try one day at a time, one task? at a time—(well, that ain’t ever going to happen), one thought?? at a time—(ditto on that one)…. Maybe start with one… step… at a time. But this time round, with the blessing of another trip around the calendar approaching, I think I can dislodge some baggage to help lighten the load and see if I can run further before the next flop.
It’s okay to be me the way that I am
Cause I’m the only one who seriously can
You be you with all your flair, pizazz and charm
And I cheer you on and sound the alarm
“Here we are, you and me alike, but diverse:
Two woven threads integral to our grand universe”
And now for the writerly stuff!
- Whilst I have parked novel writing this year, I am still writing my monthly contribution to the SWG. Find the link to this month’s offering here. The themes we pulled from the hat for this one were:
- My Year 7s and 8s are flying through their assessment this term—Yr 7s writing a 500-word piece themed “In the City” based on the experiences of our excursion into Brisbane at the beginning of the term. My 8s are writing a 800-word fantasy piece.
- Next week I will be speaking at the Seasonal Women’s evening about all things… writerly, photography me?
- Then speaking at a local church about my series and the incredibly interesting facts about the ancient cities in the book of Revelation (Pick the history nerd).
- Later in the month I will be hosting a gathering of Yr 6s for an Extended Writers Program (the course I created and run at a local high school—see above) for the day. Yes, the whole day! I don’t know how primary school teachers do it. They are complete champions in my book.
And that’s all from me this month. Feel free to drop me a line and let me know your life lessons, ticked boxes, or general going’s on.

*Pantsers are those writers who “fly by the seat of their pants” and generally make things up as they go, as opposed to “Planners” who (you guessed it) plan everything out.
PS: All typos are my gift to you. They are evidence of an authentic, original newsletter, written with my own non-AI, typo-prolific fingers : )
